About

pictureofme.gifWell, if you clicked the “About” link you are expecting to read something about me… you are the boss so here we go (Caveat Emptor)! As you will read below english is not my native language so I hope you’ll excuse me if it’s nowhere perfect :-) and of course I will gladly accept any correction.

On the net I’m known (actually, by a few people) as Lecta. I was born in Italy where I currently live. Part of my job (the “biggest” part, indeed) is to be somethng similar to IT specialist and consultant. I have experience with many computer systems: Windows, Linux, MacOSX (my main system right now) and AmigaOS.

Yes, Amiga.

Do you remember when computing was fun? Then you should remember Amiga. For all the people thinking about Amiga as dead platform all I have to say is: not really. Not as alive as I would but not quite dead. More on Amiga later…

I have knowledge of XHTML, CSS and PHP+MYSQL (not as deep as I would like, though) and I use them whenever is possible on my projects and on the sites I build/manage. I’m also in the DTP business (well… maybe “business” is a bit strong…). Currently, I’m also involved with Bitplane magazine (I wrote some articles in the past but now I’m doing the layout). This magazine covers alternative systems (AmigaOS, AROS, MorphOS, MacOSX, Haiku, Retrogaming and so on)

My computer systems, right now, are:

  • Apple PowerMac Dual G5 @ 2,3Ghz (actually my main system)
2,5 GB DDR2 SDRAM, NVidia GeForce 6600, MacOSX Tiger (soon will be upgraded to Leopard)
  • Apple MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2,4Ghz
    2 GB DDR2 PC2-5300 (667MHz), NVidia GeForce 8600M GT, MacOSX Leopard
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2,13Ghz
1 GB DDR2 SDRAM, ATI Radeon X1650, Windows XP Pro
  • AmigaOne XE G4 @ 1 Ghz (thanks to ACube Systems who repaired and upgraded my old G4 @ 800Mhz CPU Module)
512 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9000 PRO, AmigaOS 4.0
  • MacMini G4 @ 1,4 Ghz
512 MB DDR RAM, MacOSX Tiger

I plan to buy recently bought a new Apple MacBook Pro in the near future. As you can imagine I am (mainly) a Mac User (but in my heart and spirit I’m an Amigan). This does not mean that I consider Apple Inc., or Steve Jobs, as gods or infallible, but in my humble opinion (and experience) MacOSX is (for me) the best system I can actually use for my job needs. When I want to (and I have the time to) play games I use my Wintel Box, when I have to do my job I use my Macs and when I want to have fun (with computers ;-) ) I use my AmigaOne.

Ahh, yes. Amiga.

After the demise of the old Commodore (the actual Commodore share only the name with the old one) the Amiga platform passed from hand to hand. Recently after some years of development, a new shiny version of AmigaOS was brought to life: AmigaOS 4.0 for AmigaOne series of computer. But if you still have an Amiga (1200 or 4000) with a PPC expansion card you will be delighted to know that from the end of November 2007. AmigaOS 4.o is available also for you! More info on OS4 Official support site or on distributor’s page (ACube Systems). Have fun!
